Christmas and Winter Chills, Not for Everybody Mate
Santa Claus comes from the North Pole with his reindeer and elves but he must dread crossing the pacific and going to Australia because he’ll probably melt in that scorching heat. But Santa is for every Christan’s heart so we believe he visits the other end of the world as well but may be in shorts and flip-flops. What do you think about Santa’s beach outfit?
Christmas may be the most global festive event. People celebrate the birth of Christ whether or not they consider him their savior. Christmas is all about family meals, trips, and Spreading Joy. People generally become more generous around this time. They care about the less fortunate.
Celebrate Christmas in Warm Waters:
In Australia, the festivities are the same but instead of snow fights, they can go camping, and even surf. Sometimes I consider it more fun. The family dinner is not set near the fireplace but with the air conditioning. The beach sides are mostly occupied. All the BBQ places are reserved. The sun sets around 8 PM. The day saving makes the day even longer.
The festivities are different, my favorite dessert choice is not pie or pudding but Pavlova or trifle. The restaurants near beaches never shut down as the business keeps booming.
The beauty of cultures coming together is that humanity prevails. For Australian students, it’s the beginning of the summer holiday but national public holidays are the 25th, Christmas day, and the 26th which is Boxing Day. Each state has its holidays as well.
The Mandatory Christmas Traditions Are Met
Traditionally people decorate their houses with Christmas trees and lights. They sing carols but you won’t get to see the funny sweaters. In New South Wales some people have the tradition of decorating the front lawn or the door with ‘Christmas Bush’ the plant has red flowers and they are in full blossom right around Christmas time. The plant is common in Sydney and you get to cherish the Christmas spirit with red flowers all around them.
In different regions traditions like; ‘Carols by the Candlelight is famous. Families come together and share meals. The vacation spots are fully reserved but people just give a pause to their routine life and cherish the family union. Gift-giving is always the highlight of Christmas eve.
All We Look For Are Christmas Presents:
Australians are generous people and they come together with their families on Christmas Eve. People exchange gifts, and that tradition is quite international. Boxing Day which is celebrated in the UK and Australia is meant for giving gifts to the poor and less fortunate but nowadays it is mostly popular for sales and shopping sprees. Boxing day sales are quite popular. But people do provide for the poor so they can also celebrate.
December days are the best business day. People are careful about little details as well. It is quite an emotional time for most people. Santa Comes bearing gifts for children and they don’t question its outfit in their excitement. The boxes are torn open. The wrapping never lasts a day. The elders in families are equally overwhelmed by the selection of their gifts. Most people try to present their best to their loved ones.
It is always advisable that you plan your gifts as the flex increases a lot and then you don’t get your desired thing.
European Influence:
Australian traditions are influenced by the United Kingdom. They also pay homage to the Britan monarchy. The symbolic monarchy is considered on the national level. Public life however is not affected by it a lot. The meals and carols are almost the same as in the UK.
The religious practices are according to the Churches, the Catholics attend mass at night and the priest gives the sermon on christ. People try to get in touch with their religious side. The humanists try to give back to the community.
People are most charitable around Christmas. God must be happy on this day. This one day is special for all its positive vibes. Cities become less crowded as people go to the suburbs. The environment gets the chance to breathe.
Christmas in Australia is mostly bright but just to go with tradition and in the rest of the world fake snowmen are built in popular places. They just attract kids sometimes, otherwise what’s the big deal?
Anybody who has not experienced Beach Life in December should come to visit Sydney and see for themselves how much lighter it is to move around in shorts. Book a cruise or surf, your choice.
So the sun’s out, get a can of cold beer, enjoy the sea breeze on Christmas day and cherish life. Imagine how awesome it is to get the family dinner on the boat sailing on the shores. Can’t do it in winter mate, can yah?
